Employee branding and employer branding are two interrelated concepts that focus on shaping the perception of an organization both from the perspective of current and potential employees.
Employee brand is branding and marketing that is focused entirely on the employee experience. It is the external perception of your organization that’s created by employees and future hires. Getting employee branding right will improve retention, recruitment and increase profits.
Employee branding, the focus is on the communications and employee experience with your company and their work. It is guided by employees’ experience, emphasizing what it’s like to work for the company, how excited employees are about the company, and if these workers are organic brand advocates.
Simply put, employee branding is the process of getting employees on board with the mission, values, and vision of your organization.
Typically employer brand is mainly driven by your human resources team and the company executives who guide the direction of the brand, mission, and values. It focuses on culture, company perks, and career advancement opportunities.
Although similar to employee brand, it differs in execution and measurement. Having a gym membership is a nice perk (employer brand) whereas getting the company together to execute a charitable initiative led by employees (employee brand) is something people will talk to others about.
As companies evolve and grow, executives can often be heard saying “our company is changing; we need a new logo.” It’s easy to understand why this line of thinking exists. Unfortunately, it completely misses the larger and more valuable picture.
A logo will never accurately express your company, regardless of how well it’s designed. That’s not what logos are for. Your logo is an identifier of your brand, not the brand itself It is a physical thing, whereas a brand is an entire experience.
